So many Chiang Mai sights to see!

If you are a culture vulture, then Chiang Mai sightseeing is for you. There are hundreds of glittering temples and pagodas, some containing rare artefacts and superb pieces of art. Others offer a calm and beautiful sanctuary to soothe the soul, most steeped in history and tradition.

There is also the city that predates Chiang Mai, Wiang Kum Kam, 750-year-old collection of fascinating ruins just south of the city which was abandoned due to annual flooding. The new city, the Chiang Mai of today was re-sited upstream.

Or if you are interested in culture, why not visit some of the colourful hill tribes whose villages dot the folds of mountains across the region. Or, take a stroll around communities where people still practice their crafts such as Bo Sang umbrella village or Wualai silversmith street.

And of course, there is nature. Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s tallest mountain, is just to the south of the city. Closer yet is Doi Suthep temple, a mere half hour’s drive up to the top of the mountain will take you to this most sacred of temples with fabulous views of the city below. On the way down you can stop off at waterfalls and viewpoints, even visit a jungle temple.

There is no shortage of sights to see.
