Chiang Mai hotel gets busy selling croissants

The pandemic is hitting us all hard. It was therefore newsworthy when the five star Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai set up a stand outside their beautiful hotel, selling croissants.

All hand made by the resort’s talented Italian chef Paolo Pelosi, these coveted croissants are now so popular you have to order in advance to be sure to get some. The hotel only makes 1,000 croissants per day, and they are selling out within a couple of hours.

At an eminently reasonable 55 baht per croissant (two croissants and a drink costs 99 baht) the hotel is going to have to ramp up production soon to keep up with demand.

“Our hotel, like so many others, has been affected by the pandemic,” said Wiyada Sornprapha. Director of Sales and Marketing at Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai. “We therefore had to adapt and find ways to generate income. We have offered a Flash Sale with great reductions in our room prices, which is very popular with Thai tourists and now offer our Coffee Break Drive-thru which appears to be successful with many local residents looking for croissants and coffee.”

The hotel offers up an enticing selection of croissants – almond, lemon meringue, strawberry cream, salted egg, and caramel-roasted nuts.

The drive-thru is officially open from 7am-7pm, but at this point it is best to go as early as possible as the flakey bakey bites runs out pretty early.
