Grandma Somsri first opened her award-winning restaurant in Konkaen thirty years ago. Her restaurant here in Chiang Mai, also called Krua Supannika by Grandma Somsri, is the second branch of the business and is being run by her grandson, Ae, who also owns and runs all of the international and Thai branches of Somtum Der, including branches in New York, Tokyo, Beijing, Vietnam and Taiwan.

Having received a mention in the Michelin Guide 2023, Krua Supannika Chiang Mai, in San Phi Sun, is a great riverside destination for those looking for quality Thai food.

Surrounded by trees and lovely plants, you can dine on a banquet of braised pork belly with cowa leaves, crab roe relish, chili paste relish with dried shrimps, panang curry, jungle curry, stir-fried cabbage with fish sauce and all sorts of Eastern and Central Thai delights.

Other recommended dishes include the classic watermelon and dried fish appetiser, mahor, crab roe relish and lots of fried vegetable dishes as well as soups and curries.

End the meal with a classic Thai dessert – bua loy rice balls in sweet coconut milk.
